Anyway here is how to fix it. If you are using win7 open the folder where you saved it. go to organize>folder and search options. in the window that pops up click on the view tab, scroll down and uncheck "hide extensions for known file types". Now just change the part of the name after the . from psd to pat and drag and drop into Photoshop. It will now show as a pattern when you use the paintbucket tool and switch to pattern and the dots that you want to use.

but it ain't a .psd .. it's a photoshop-pattern (.pat)
simply replace the ending .psd with .pat and cs3 is able to read teh file.
